Chess
The students will learn to compete under the regulations of the Virginia Chess Federation. A collaboration with SCBC has been created to teach students the components of chess including critical thinking and strategy. The domains of gifted under this clubhouse are intellectual and leadership.
Crochet/Crafts
The students will learn to complete
projects and promote community outreach. Using their new skills, students will create items that assist other clubhouses and forge a philanthropic relationship with the community. The domains of gifted under this clubhouse are creative and artistic.
Lego/Robotics
The students will connect with those in the field and learn to qualify for competitions. In collaboration with local sponsors, students will have the opportunity to develop critical thinking skills and create. The domains of gifted under this clubhouse are intellectual and leadership.
Roots and Sprouts
The students will learn to cultivate in
the Victory Garden. The collaboration will allow students to learn the process of growing, harvesting, and distributing food from the garden to the community. The domains of gifted under this clubhouse are creative and leadership.
Visual and Graphic Arts
The students will connect with those in the field and create for the purpose of learning and assisting other clubhouses. The collaboration with other clubhouses will lead to the submission for the Doodle for Google competition. The domains of gifted under this clubhouse are creative and artistic.
Drama/Forensics
The students will learn to develop
skills used in the performing arts and complete a showcase. With the assistance of VCU and Arts Ignite, the students will hone talents that will allow a production to be completed by the end of the year. The domains of gifted under this clubhouse are leadership and artistic.
National Bees (science, spelling, geography)
The students will learn to compete in the National science, geography, and spelling bees. Understanding the aspects of memory, students will learn the skills to compete, beginning with the local competitions. The domains of gifted under this clubhouse are academic, intellectual, and leadership.
Mind Games (logic and problem solving)
The students will connect with those in the field and learn skills to master
competition categories. Students will discover new ways to think through problems and work collaboratively to complete a goal during the end of year competition. The domains of gifted under this clubhouse are intellectual, academic, and leadership.
Polyglot Prep
The students will be able to study the cultures surrounding root and current language groups. By learning the basics of different languages, students will be able to expand their literacy skills. The domains of gifted under this clubhouse are intellectual and academic.
Kinesiology (movement, dance, step)
The students will connect with those in the field of movement to include step, dance, motion, and more. This group includes diabolo yo-yos and the expectation is the creation of an original production with movement from each area. The domains of gifted under this clubhouse are creative and artistic.
